Prosecco di Conegliano, Casa Coste Piane
Stylish, elegant, slightly cloudy. Unique and different it brings the fun back to drinking this often average Italian fizz.
The Grapes: Gelra
The vineyards lie on slopes close to the cellar. The vines are on average 60 years old, the grapes organically grown and the yields unusually low for this region and style of wine.
The Region: Veneto, Italy
Based in Santo Stefano at the heart of the Valdobbiadene the estate consists of 5 hectares only producing a maximum of 30,000 bottles per year. For generations the wine here has been sold in bulk but since 1983 its been made and bottled at the estate. The wine making philosophy is a natural one., the fermentation is spontaneous and only little sulphite is added at bottling.
The Producer: Casa Coste Piane
This is one of the few Proseccos made in the traditional Champagne method where the second fermentation happens naturally in the bottle. Once the fermentation ends the wine spends a further 4 weeks on its yeast to add complexity and structure. The yeast are left to sink in the bottle creating a natural haziness in the glass.
