Frappato - Nerello Mascalese, Caruso & Minini '10

Floral, silky Pinot Noir-ish

The grapes: Frappato and Nerello Mascalese

also known as Nebbiolo of the south, Nerello Mascalese is one of the most exciting Italian varietals of the moment. Mainly grown in the north east of the island, the Nerello can produce fine and elegant wines - some say Burgundian in style.

The Region: Sicily, Italy

Located in western Sicily, the town of Marsala has been famous for more than 200 years for producing the most famous wines of the island. The estates' grapes grow in the vineyards of Giummarella and Cuttaia, located in a hilly area East of Marsala at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level - which is favourable for the production of lighter and softer red wines.

The Producer:

Stefano Caruso comes from a family with la long standing vintner’s tradition. Mario Minini's family have been managing the Brescian winery for more than 80 years. Their winery operates in an old “baglio” in the heart of the traditional wine-cellar area of Marsala and produces modern wines based on traditional viticulture practises and grape varieties.
